SPANISH BEGINNERS (Tuesdays)

This course is aimed at complete beginners in the language who would like to learn the basic language skills to get by in a range of situations.

During the course you will study topics such as:


• Presenting yourself and your family/friends
• Getting around (places and directions)
• Accommodation
• Food and Drink
• Shopping for food

 

Each topic studied will help you to increase vocabulary and expressions through reading exercises, role-plays, pair work, pronunciation tasks, etc.

 

The course will also give you:


• A knowledge of the culture and some of the traditions in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.
• Confidence in dealing with basic situations when you are abroad.

 

 

SPANISH IMPROVERS LEVEL 1 (Tuesdays)

Spanish Improvers Level 1 follows on from our Beginners course. You will need to have studied the language for at least 1 year. The course could also suit those individuals who achieved a GCSE level many years ago (at least grade C) but have not practised the language for a long time. They will reinforce what you have learnt and further extend your vocabulary.

During the course you will develop the ability to deal with a range of situations in the language:

• Revision and extension of Year 1 topics
• Daily routines
• Leisure time
• Shopping for souvenirs and clothes
• Spain and its regions

Each topic studied will help you to increase your fluency and confidence when using Spanish. In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the way of life in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.

 

 

SPANISH IMPROVERS LEVEL 2 (Thursdays)

This language course is ideal for those individuals who have studied the language for 2 years. It is also for those individuals who achieved a GCSE level some years ago (grade A/B) but have not practised the language for some time.


During the course you will develop the ability to deal with a range of situations in the language:

• Revision and extension of Years 1 and 2 topics
• Holidays (past and future ones)
• Travel (public transport + hiring a car)
• Problem solving whilst abroad (e.g. doctors, garage, chemists, hotel, bank, police station)
• Spain (its regions and some festivals)

 

The course will give you the chance to study more Spanish grammar and will further develop your fluency to use the language in some complex situations. This will help you to maintain more fluent conversations with Spanish speakers. You will also be learning more about Spain as a country (eg. customs and traditions) and about other Spanish-speaking countries.

 

 

SPANISH INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 1 (Mondays)

A typical learner for this course will have studied the language for 3 years.
During the course you will develop the ability to deal with a range of authentic situations:

• Revision and extension of years 1-3 topics
• Your personal hobbies
• Current routines and future plans
• Problem solving whilst travelling in Spain or another Spanish-speaking country
• Spanish gastronomy
• The study of a film
• Options (chosen by the group)

The course will give you the chance to study more Spanish grammar and vocabulary. This will help you to maintain more fluent conversations with Spanish speakers.

 

 

ADVANCED SPANISH (Tuesdays)

This language course is for those individuals who have completed at least 5 years of language study or have experience of A Level study (or equivalent qualification). A good knowledge of grammar and vocabulary is essential.
During the course you will develop the ability to use and understand the language with a good degree of fluency and confidence. Grammar will be an integral part of the course in order to help you to achieve that. There will be some flexibility in the choice of topics to be studied, and your personal interests will be taken into account when deciding the course content. These are some topics you will study, which will help you to gain more specific vocabulary, expressions and complex structures.

• Aspects of the history, art, music and/or geography of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries
• Customs and traditions in the Hispanic world
• The study of a film
• Problem Solving Situations whilst abroad
• Options (chosen by the group)

You will develop a greater in-depth knowledge and understanding of contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.

Start week commencing 24th September 2018

Start at 6.30pm and finish at 8.00pm

Last for 24 weeks
