This is a vocational course with a strong emphasis on practical work. You will study a range of dance styles and creative approaches such as contemporary dance and commercial; as well as increasing your knowledge of safe practice and the performing arts industry.
You will study the following units:
• Developing Movement Skills
• Developing Contemporary Dance Technique

• Movement in Performance
• Applying Contemporary Dance Technique
• Performing to an Audience
Study Visits / Costs
TRC organises exciting opportunities for you to work with performers from professional companies and to go and watch live performances. This is a mandatory part of the course and it is essential you take part in each event. The cost is usually no more than £10 per event.
All assessment will be based on coursework. Your practical coursework will be a combination of performance work, assessed techniques classes, choreography tasks and collaborative team-work. Your written coursework will be a combination of research tasks, reports, and evaluations.
You will need to achieve the general entry requirements for Level 3 study as well as having some experience of practical dance (through private lessons or dance study at Level 2). All learners applying for this course should be participating in private dance lessons in order to make the necessary practical progress.
Useful Supporting Courses
This course could be combined with Performing Arts and Music/Music Technology for a performance focussed programme, but would combine equally well with any of the other A-Level subjects for a more varied programme. We also envisage that some students may wish to choose this course in combination with Sciences or Maths as a contrasting option that has a more practical coursework emphasis.
